Description: Through the Mmwanyi Terimba Programme, BUCADEF has been able to increase coffee production in the 26 Buganda Region Districts to 35% in 7 years. Cocoa has not been vibrant, however, now that the cocoa sector is getting amalgamated with UCDA, BUCADEF is also strategizing to get the cocoa producers publicized. BUCADEF is collaborating with selected Kiboko mills to bulk and process organized farmers’ coffee for value addition. BUCADEF is also into specialty coffee market, currently BUCADEF has groups of farmers wet-processing their coffee to meet the demands of specialty coffee market. The coffee that BUCADEF collects from the farmers is graded and marketed for its quantity and quality. BUCADEF has also ventured into roasting and has introduced Emmwanyi Yaffe coffee brand on the market to meet the growing demand of roast and ground coffee as well as to promote domestic coffee consumption.

Description: The aim of this project is to develop a vibrant and sustainable cocoa value chain in Bundibugyo district. It is a partnership between the Government of Uganda and the European Union through MARKUP initiative focused at addressing obstacles and challenges experienced in the cocoa value chain in relation to reduced production and productivity, harvest and post-harvest losses, market access and diversification into higher export markets for smallholders. Description: Latitude is a social enterprise in Uganda producing and exporting specialty cocoa, bean to bar chocolate and cocoa derivatives. The company works with over 5000 certified organic cocoa farmers in Uganda to provide training and a stable market for wet cacao purchased directly from registered farmers at rural village collection points. Latitude operates central fermentation and drying facilities for the production of fully traceable specialty cocoa from several regions of Uganda, supplying chocolate companies in the US, EU and Asia markets. Latitude also produces its own bean to bar chocolate brand (Latitude Craft Chocolate), cocoa powder and cocoa butter at its factories in Kampala for sale in East Africa, US, EU and Japan markets.
