Description: Through the Mmwanyi Terimba Programme, BUCADEF has been able to increase coffee production in the 26 Buganda Region Districts to 35% in 7 years. Cocoa has not been vibrant, however, now that the cocoa sector is getting amalgamated with UCDA, BUCADEF is also strategizing to get the cocoa producers publicized. BUCADEF is collaborating with selected Kiboko mills to bulk and process organized farmers’ coffee for value addition. BUCADEF is also into specialty coffee market, currently BUCADEF has groups of farmers wet-processing their coffee to meet the demands of specialty coffee market. The coffee that BUCADEF collects from the farmers is graded and marketed for its quantity and quality. BUCADEF has also ventured into roasting and has introduced Emmwanyi Yaffe coffee brand on the market to meet the growing demand of roast and ground coffee as well as to promote domestic coffee consumption.

Description: BJCU produces, processes and exports organic fully washed Arabica coffee from Rwenzori mountains. Its coffee is branded as “Owemba” which is grown at elevation of 1,400 to 2,200 meters above the sea level. The cooperative consists of over 5,500 members who grow and mill fair trade organic certified washed Arabica coffee. It consists of certifications provided by FLO, EU and NOP Organic. It processes coffee through micro-washing stations and dry it on raised beds under cover. The coffee harvest season is September to December for main season and from February to May for fly harvests. Its annual production is about 15 to 22 containers.

Description: BOCU is a union composed of 13 primary cooperatives founded in 2009. It consists of 2,552 farmers who produce certified fair trade organic specialty hand-picked Arabica coffee grown from the foothills of Rwenzori mountains in western Uganda at the elevation between 1,200 and 2,000 meters. It grows SL28 and SL14 coffee varieties grown in old tectonic soil. Main harvests happen between August to November and fly crop is in March up to May. It produces 15 containers per year through its 46 micro washing stations. It supports the local communities through beekeeping, SACCOs, energy cook stoves, passion fruits e.t.c

Bundibugyo

We are a dynamic primary agricultural cooperative owned by its cacao producer members, who are parents of Bundikakemba Primary School. Bundikakemba was formed with the primary aim of creating opportunities for changing the livelihoods of its members to be able to send their children to school, stay in school, and complete school. Since BGCSL was founded from the old Bundikakemba Farmers Association in 2014 and has since created a strong and well-managed organisation that serves as a focal point for our farmers and the wider community. We always work hard to build strong, trusting relationships with our members, our business partners, and our stakeholders and we work together to the advantage of our land and people. 825 (Female =454 Male = 371) smallholder farmers have joined BGCSL and farm approximately 875 Hectares of cocoa as the most important cash crop with an annual production capacity of 683 MT and of which 257MT is Fairtrade and Organic certified.
